Our client is actively seeking a talented Senior Mechanical Equipment Engineer to join a highly experienced team focused on revolutionizing lithium-ion battery manufacturing technologies. The company aims to establish itself as a global leader in turn-key equipment solutions for battery cell manufacturers.
⚡ Position Summary:
The Senior Mechatronics Engineer will bring expertise in mechatronic systems design, combining mechanical, electrical, and control systems, to support the development of cutting-edge pilot-scale technologies and eventually drive their transition to full-scale industrial manufacturing equipment.
The role will utilize your automation, robotics and controls skills to develop roll-to-roll process equipment. Roll-to-roll manufacturing experience is not necessary, but automation and machine design are vital.
⚡ Key Responsibilities:
Mechatronic System Design and Development:
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and control engineers to design the next generation of automated electrode manufacturing equipment.
- Develop and integrate robotic and automation solutions into roll-to-roll manufacturing processes.
- Support Proof of Concept designs and prototypes, emphasizing the incorporation of sensors, actuators, and control systems.
CAD Design and Drafting:
- Create robust 3D models of mechanical and mechatronic components and systems, converting them to 2D drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
- Manage and refine CAD file/drawing management, ensuring version control and release processes.
Automation and Robotics Integration:
- Design and implement systems for robotic handling, automated material transport, and quality inspection.
- Specify and program PLCs, motion controllers, and other automation components for manufacturing equipment.
Fabrication and Prototyping:
- Interface with machine shops and fabricators to ensure high-quality component production.
- Leverage rapid prototyping methods such as 3D printing, extruded-aluminum framing, and other materials to support design iterations.
- Assist in in-house assembly and testing of prototypes, integrating mechanical and electrical systems for functional validation.
Project Support:
- Contribute to the success of the company’s development initiatives by providing interdisciplinary expertise.

- Process Optimization
- Systems Integration
⚡ Experience/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s (preferred) in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ Years (preferably 10+) in an engineering and design environment with experience in robotics, automation, or roll-to-roll manufacturing preferred.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software: Inventor (preferred), Solidworks, or Creo.
- Experience in design processes including GD&T, Tolerance Analysis, Basic Stress Analysis, Assembly Fit Checks, and DFM.
- Strong understanding of sensor integration, actuators, and control systems.
- Familiarity with PLCs, motion controllers, and industrial communication protocols.
- Hands-on experience with robotic arms, end effectors, and vision systems is highly desirable.
- Skilled with basic shop equipment (e.g., drill press, band saw, grinder, hand tools) for building prototypes.
- Knowledge of rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing techniques.
