    ⚡ Position Summary:

    The Senior Electric Powertrain Engineer will lead the design, development, and delivery of a safe and reliable custom electric powertrain, including all high-voltage components from batteries to motors, for production-ready marine vessels. This role requires both technical depth and leadership ability, shaping a growing engineering team while remaining hands-on.

     

    ⚡ Key Responsibilities:

    • Architect and deliver the full electric powertrain for production marine vessels.
    • Oversee design and integration of batteries, BMS, PDUs, inverters, charging systems, and motors.
    • Collaborate with vendors and contractors to design and build custom components.
    • Lead and mentor the electrical engineering team, fostering technical excellence.
    • Ensure compliance with standards and certification requirements for high-voltage powertrain systems.

     

    ⚡ Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
    • 4+ years of experience in electric powertrain design.
    • Strong knowledge of Li-ion batteries, BMS, PDUs, inverters, and motors.
    • Hands-on experience in C/C++ and embedded software development.
    • Proficiency in schematic design, PCB layout, and CAD.
    • Experience with communication protocols such as CAN, Ethernet, RS232, J1939.
    • Proven team leadership with the ability to contribute as an individual engineer.

     

    ⚡ Preferred Skills:

    • Experience with maritime environments (IP ratings, ABYC standards, corrosion, galvanic isolation).
    • Passion for boating and clean marine technology.

About the Role

 

A leading U.S. defense contractor specializing in advanced power conversion systems is seeking a strategic and hands-on Electrical Engineering Lead to drive innovation across a portfolio of defense programs. This role is ideal for a senior technical leader with deep experience in military hardware development, cross-functional program execution, and managing high-impact engineering teams.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead all phases of engineering for defense power hardware programs—from quoting and proposal development through qualification and sustainment.
  • Manage a team of electrical engineers working in tandem with mechanical engineers to meet program objectives.
  • Create and maintain program design documentation, including system design review materials for preliminary and critical design reviews.
  • Interface directly with defense clients and shipbuilders throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Track progress against cost, schedule, and technical performance goals.
  • Lead internal and external teams, including subcontractors and consultants.
  • Oversee risk and opportunity management across the program portfolio.
  • Support sustainment efforts such as spare parts, preventative maintenance, and follow-on orders.

 

Qualifications

 

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • Experience leading large defense hardware development programs (land, sea, or air).
  • Strong background in power conversion or power electronics product development.
  • Familiarity with MIL-SPEC requirements and VCRM matrix compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage government-funded contracts and budgets.
