Electrical Engineer II — Building Power & Systems
Role Overview
Mid-level electrical design role supporting senior engineers on multi-disciplinary projects. You’ll translate requirements into constructible designs that meet codes/standards, while guiding junior teammates and coordinating across trades.
What You’ll Do
-
Lead small, well-defined scopes; provide day-to-day direction to junior engineers/designers assigned to your workstream.
-
Partner with the Engineer of Record to review and process equipment/system submittals.
-
Draft project-specific electrical specifications and sequences of operation.
-
Support factory/field testing and commissioning activities; understand test plans and acceptance criteria.
-
Coordinate diligently with architecture, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and low-voltage disciplines.
-
Produce and check design deliverables: power, lighting, grounding, and auxiliary systems.
-
Develop single-line diagrams; perform feeder/OCPD sizing; prepare equipment layouts/elevations.
-
Run or assist with studies: short-circuit, protective-device coordination, and arc-flash mitigation.
-
Perform distribution calculations—voltage drop/droop and underground thermal ampacity (Neher–McGrath).
-
Align design choices with specs and procurement strategy (“buy-out”) to meet budget/schedule targets.
-
Conduct site walks to document existing conditions; support limited on-site assignments as needed.
-
Use engineering analysis tools and judgment to evaluate loads, illumination levels, and fault duties.
-
Contribute to value-engineering alternatives that improve constructability and cost without sacrificing performance.
-
Participate in design meetings; interface directly with clients, architects, and MEP partners.
-
Triage and resolve RFIs, clashes, and drawing interpretation issues during construction; attend owner/contractor meetings as the electrical design representative.
Note: Duties reflect the core scope for this level; responsibilities may evolve with project needs.
