🌍 On-Site + San Francisco, CA
💰 $250,000

Join a leading US-based renewable energy company dedicated to transforming the energy landscape with large-scale storage and renewable projects. Focused on developing and operating utility-scale battery energy storage, solar, and wind assets, this organisation supports over 30 GW of project capacity and leverages innovative technologies to enable a sustainable energy future. With backing from prominent infrastructure investors, it stands at the forefront of the clean energy transition, delivering critical infrastructure that powers the grid securely and efficiently.

The VP of Risk will be instrumental in developing and leading a comprehensive risk management framework tailored to large-scale renewable energy projects. This senior role ensures operational resilience, regulatory compliance, and strategic risk mitigation across the company’s diverse portfolio. You will have critical ownership over risk strategy, working closely with executive leadership to enable scalable growth while safeguarding the organisation’s mission-critical assets.

This role exists to embed advanced risk practices into every phase of project development and operational execution, supporting the organisation’s rapid growth in a complex regulatory and technological landscape. Collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams, you will shape risk policies and lead initiatives to address emerging challenges in energy storage and renewable infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement a robust risk management strategy for large-scale renewable energy projects including storage, solar, and wind assets
  • Perform detailed risk assessments across project development, engineering, and operational phases to identify vulnerabilities
  • Establish and maintain governance structures ensuring compliance with energy industry standards and regulations
  • Collaborate with technical, legal, and operational teams to integrate risk mitigation into project planning and execution
  • Oversee risk reporting, escalation procedures, and provide strategic insights to senior leadership for informed decision-making
  • Lead initiatives to enhance risk detection, response capabilities, and resilience across a geographically dispersed asset portfolio
  • Promote a strong risk-aware culture through training, strategic communication, and best practice frameworks
  • Stay ahead of emerging risks related to regulatory, technological, and market developments impacting renewable energy projects

Requirements / Who We’re Looking For:

  • Significant experience in risk management within the renewable energy, energy storage, or related infrastructure sectors
  • Deep understanding of the regulatory environment governing large-scale renewable projects, including storage assets
  • Proven leadership in designing and executing enterprise risk frameworks at a strategic level
  • Hands-on experience with risk assessment and mitigation in project development and operations
  • Strong technical knowledge of renewable energy technologies, energy markets, and grid integration risks
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and executive decision-makers
  • Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to emerging risks and resilience planning
  • Senior risk management experience in fast-growing, asset-heavy energy organizations preferred

Why Apply?:

  • Shape the risk posture of a pioneering renewable energy leader at the forefront of energy storage innovation
  • Play a critical role in enabling the growth of large-scale clean energy projects across the US
  • Work directly with visionary leaders committed to accelerating the clean energy transition
  • Enjoy ownership and autonomy in a role with significant impact on operational resilience and strategic direction
  • Join a mission-driven organisation dedicated to building a sustainable energy future
  • Competitive compensation package with opportunities for professional growth and leadership
  • Engage in a dynamic environment focused on transforming how energy is stored and utilized at the grid level
