Senior Business Development Manager (Power & Utilities)
Overview
We are seeking a Senior Business Development Manager to drive strategic revenue growth across the electric utility and heavy industrial sectors. This role focuses on expanding market presence, developing key client relationships, and influencing large-scale infrastructure projects from early-stage planning through execution.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in transmission & distribution (T&D), industrial power systems, and medium- to high-voltage (MV/HV) equipment, along with a strong track record in complex, long-cycle sales environments.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Growth
- Develop and execute regional business development strategies targeting utilities and industrial markets
- Identify and pursue large-scale infrastructure projects, including substations, transmission upgrades, and grid modernization initiatives
- Position solutions early in the project lifecycle to influence specifications
- Build and manage a long-term sales pipeline (12–36 months)
Account & Relationship Management
- Establish and maintain senior-level relationships with utilities, EPC firms, consultants, and industrial clients
- Act as a trusted advisor on system reliability, power quality, and compliance solutions
- Deliver a high-quality, end-to-end customer experience
Technical & Commercial Leadership
- Lead solution positioning for advanced electrical infrastructure offerings, including reactive power systems, substation equipment, and grid technologies
- Collaborate with engineering teams to develop proposals and competitive bid strategies
- Support RFP/RFQ processes and lead commercial negotiations
Market Intelligence
- Monitor industry trends, regulatory developments, and infrastructure investments
- Track project pipelines, capital planning cycles, and interconnection activity
- Identify market opportunities, competitive risks, and growth areas
- Provide accurate forecasting and territory performance reporting
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 10+ years of experience in utility, energy, or heavy industrial sectors
- Proven success closing large, complex capital equipment deals
- Strong understanding of transmission & distribution systems and substation infrastructure
- Experience managing long sales cycles (6–36 months)
Preferred
- Experience with MV/HV equipment, substation systems, or grid technologies
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory frameworks
- Knowledge of EPC project structures and utility procurement processes
- Experience using CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce or similar)
