We’re partnering with a leading energy storage developer and operator to identify a seasoned Director of Strategic Tax to lead tax strategy across development, construction, and operations.
This role is essential to unlocking tax equity value, supporting large-scale project finance, and guiding executive decisions on structuring and risk.
Reporting directly to the CFO, this position will shape the tax posture of one of North America’s fastest-growing renewable energy platforms and collaborate cross-functionally across legal, finance, and development.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Tax Leadership
- Own tax strategy across M&A, project development, financing, and corporate structuring
- Optimize use of federal/state incentives (e.g., ITC, PTC, 45X, 45Q)
- Advise on tax equity, transferability, and hybrid project structures
- Support commercial teams on deal structuring, risk, and value realization
Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Lead preparation and review of federal, state, and local filings
- Manage GAAP tax provisions and partner reporting obligations
- Ensure compliance with tax equity partnerships and evolving regulations
- Implement strong internal controls and process improvements
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Project Finance on modeling and structuring
- Collaborate with Legal, EPC, and Development on major transactions
- Present tax strategies and risk positions to executive leadership and the board
- Manage external advisors, auditors, and investor relationships
Qualifications
- CPA required; Master’s in Tax or JD/LLM preferred
- 10+ years of progressive tax experience, including renewable energy sector exposure
- Expertise in tax equity, partnership taxation, and federal/state incentive programs
- Experience leading tax teams and managing complex, multi-entity structures
- Knowledge of international tax a plus
- Big 4 or top-tier public accounting background preferred
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence non-tax stakeholders
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint
