This is a unique opportunity for a highly quantitative and analytical power market professional to join a leading global energy retail and wholesale power trading firm.
You’ll work at the intersection of strategy, market operations, and technical modelling—developing advanced forecasts, executing market-driven trades, and contributing to a robust risk management approach. This role is central to supporting delivery of electricity across multiple generation types, including nuclear, coal, natural gas, and renewables.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the analysis of transmission systems and congestion behaviour to forecast prices and inform hedging strategies.
- Develop, enhance, and maintain advanced models of power systems to support strategic trading decisions across short- to medium-term horizons.
- Identify and capitalize on speculative trading opportunities in various markets.
- Collaborate with internal teams—Grid Optimization, Market Fundamentals, Plant Operations, and Power Trading & Structuring—to align strategy and market intelligence.
- Provide actionable insights and market viewpoints to stakeholders, supporting both commercial objectives and grid reliability.
Required Background & Competencies:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in transmission planning or nodal power markets, including 2+ years with simulation tools like UPLAN, Promod, or similar.
- Deep understanding of US ISO market frameworks
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including VBA; experience handling large datasets using database tools and custom-built algorithms.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
- Excellent communication skills to clearly convey technical content and strategic recommendations to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Degree in a relevant field such as Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Energy Systems, or Economics; certifications related to power systems or energy markets are a plus.
