Smart Tech and Sustainability: what’s the link?

Smart technology has the potential to revolutionize sustainability by making our homes, cities, and industries more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. By leveraging the power of the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI), smart technology can help reduce waste, conserve resources, and lower carbon emissions. According to Statista, global spending on Internet of Things products is forecast to reach $1.1 trillion, which will further propel the adoption of smart tech in homes and cities.

One way that smart technology is promoting sustainability is through the creation of smart homes. Smart home devices, such as smart thermostats and lighting systems, can be programmed to automatically adjust temperature and lighting based on occupancy, time of day, and weather conditions. This can significantly reduce energy consumption and lower utility bills, all while improving comfort and convenience.

Smart technology is also transforming the way we manage waste and recycling. Smart waste management systems use sensors and real-time data to optimize waste collection and disposal, reducing unnecessary pickups and minimizing the amount of waste sent to landfills. Additionally, smart recycling systems use AI and computer vision to sort and process recyclable materials more efficiently, reducing contamination and increasing the amount of waste that can be recycled.

Overall, smart technology has the potential to revolutionize sustainability by making our homes, cities, and industries more energy-efficient, environmentally friendly, and sustainable. Because of that, we’ve decided to create a list of seven European start-ups that are paving the way for Smart Tech in 2023. We’ve spotlighted companies from all aspects of smart tech, be it smart homes or smart cities, that are accelerating the market.
